Your Fall Car Maintenance Checklist
Summer heat is hard on batteries, tires and wipers. Here is what to check now so your vehicle is ready for cooler mornings and holiday road trips.

Cooler weather is easier on engines than a Texas summer, but fall is the right time to fix the wear that summer heat caused and get ready for winter road trips.
Check your battery
Heat is the number one battery killer, and the damage often shows up on the first cold morning. If your battery is more than three years old, ask for a free load test at your next visit.
Inspect tires and tread depth
Tire pressure drops about one PSI for every 10 degree drop in temperature. Check pressures monthly and look for at least 4/32 of an inch of tread for safe wet-weather braking.
Replace your wiper blades
Sun-baked rubber cracks and streaks. Fresh blades cost little and make a big difference in fall storms.
Test the heater and defroster
Turn on the heat now so a weak blower motor or a coolant problem does not surprise you on a frosty morning.
Top off your fluids
- Engine oil and filter
- Coolant at the correct mixture
- Brake fluid
- Washer fluid with de-icer
